Crunch's CSMII Round 3 Overview

Two down, 6 to go! The end of round 2 heralded the end of we-r and ESM in this competition and 4 more teams fighting for their lives. By the end of round 3, our first finalist will be revealed and 2 more teams will bow out of the competition.

Rewound vs BEASTIN

After righteously disposing of -A- in stylish fashion, rewound will be entering this match on a high. Their round 2 game was a real demonstration of what rewound can do when they cut prime loose and plow forward with subtitled and jameh leading the charge. Even when using a substitute player, unfamiliar to their strategies on follower,

After an entertaining match on follower and a 3 round nailbiter on gravelpit in round 2, this week's matchup between rewound and beastin will be a nice change of pace with well and granary being the main picks between the two teams.

Beastin had a very close round 2 match, capitalising famous's mistakes to pull off a win. Beastin still play quite an erratic game, with moz playing just a little too passively and leaning on their scouts to force mistakes. While this has worked against less organised teams, i think beastin are going to have real troubles facing up to rewounds aggressive scouts and demoman on rollouts and their well rounded heavy combo when the game slows down. If beastin can trust moz's skill and push him into a more aggressive style, their naturally aggressive soldiers, vic and wolfeh can relax and play their game. Should that happen, beastin could easily upset rewound. Since rewound are very practiced on well, and highly consistent on granary i have to pick them for a hard fought 2 map win.

Players to watch:

Prime seems to be stepping his game up in this competition. Backed up by his aggressive scouts, subtitled and jmh, look out for some huge sprees.

Beastin's scouts make the vast majority of plays for them. Keep your eye on

(Rewound: 2 - 0)

CSM2 Round 2 According to Archaon`

Here i was thinking we were still on dialup because apparently people still play Team Fortress. Apparently someone out there still finds this game exciting so by virtue of connection I guess I have to find the people who still play it seriously as lesser human beings.

Crunch's CSMII Round 2 Overview

Round 1 ended in predictable fashion with all of the seeded teams with the exception of beastin progressing to the top bracket with straight map victories under their belts.

-A- vs Rewound

I am quite looking forward to this match. I believe -A- are going to cop quite a surprise at this new rejuvinated rewound and their newfound aggression. This match will most likely be decided by the map choices of each team since both teams have very definite weaknesses. After a fair amount of jostling and rule changing, follower, gravelpit and freight (in order) were chosen. The interresting choice of 2 custom maps should play fairly well into rewounds hands since they have had far more experience on these maps than almost any team in this competition. Recently, rewound have been working on their aggressive plays to compliment their well honed defensive positioning, and will be looking to throw -A- on the back foot early in this match.

We can all expect -A- to enter this match with confidence. Their round 1 destruction of the jedi order firmly stamped them as a real contender for the title however, their insistance on not using nomey in their matches has left them with a fairly understrength soldier pair. -A- will most likely be trying to maximise their damage potential by jumping them on top of rewound very early, relying on yuki, bowt and gore to hold the line. Expect rewound to be waiting for this early aggression from -A- and attempt to quickly shut aporia and cruger down for a quick stomp of -A-

-A- should not be discounted however. They hold one very large trump card in the sense that their scouts are largely unmatched in both fragging ability and gamesense and -A- will be looking to them to be the glue that holds their team together if the shit hits the fan. If jmh and subtitled cannot keep them in check, bowt and gore will use any distraction caused by their heavies to quickly run rings around rewound.

Players to watch:

Greyhunter the mighty wizard seems to have found a new spellbook and has learned the art of aerial attack. Expect to see him making some uncharacteristicly aggressive plays in conjunction with subtitled.

Aporia pulled off some great plays vs jedi's last week. Expect him to rise to the occasion and give creedence to the fact that he is one of the most underrated soldiers in this competition.

Watch out for the "flying prime"

(REWOUND: 2 - 1)

Crunch's CSMII Round 1 Overview

Another year, another invite tournament to get the blood flowing. The return of the Clansport TF2 Masters has been much anticipated since the exciting pg vs bb final of last year. While the timing could have been better nobody can deny the thrill of watching the best Australia and New Zealand have to offer fight it out for something a bit more than just bragging rights. After the usual end of year spree of disbands, new teams have formed from the ashes with nothing to lose and everything to gain. With the OWLSE season looming, watch these teams pull out all the stops to claim the title of #1.

Round 1 is designed to sort the wheat from the chaff. Being a double elimination competition, no teams are eliminated after round 1. Round 1 will set the scene for the entire competition as those who drop to the lower bracket fight for a second chance at the title.

-A- vs Jedi Knights

On paper this match is looking to be a whitewash for -A-.

With the return of nomey and gore to tf2 they now have the strong, experienced fraggers they have needed since forming. They have a style remeniscent of the old YSW, often sacrificing their demo and soldiers and leaning heavily on their scouts, bowt and gore, to stay alive, play smart and exploit any holes their heavies have drilled into their opponents. Playing a freight train style of tf2 has worked well for -A- so far, since none of their opponents can mount an effective defence against the overwhelming force that is yuki and nomey.

While their ultra aggressive playstyle is effective it is also predictable and often uncoordinated, leaving them open to being shut down by a well organised team. Jks is a perfect example of a team full of talented individuals who lack experience. Full top teir COD and quake players and backed up by the experience of hellscream and bonobo, i can see jedi's becomming a force to be reckoned with in the future. Unforunately i just dont see the Jedis handling -A-'s blitzkreig tactics. While i maintain that zeroin has the raw aim to match nomey's and hellscream has an uncanny ability to be just as annoying as bowt (albeit with slightly better aim). The jedis rely almost solely on them to make the plays and should they fail, the rest of the team tends to disintegrate.

While i can see gravelpit being somewhat entertaining as jedi's make full use of the many utilities at their disposal, -A- will run rings around jedi's heavy classes on badlands and follower, should it go to a 3rd map.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Watch nomey cut swaths through the jedi ranks and some smart picks from bowt

Watch zer0in muscle his way around every time he gets the chance.

PREDICTION:

(-A-: 2 - 0)
